Eliza Mills
c1816-1892
Eliza was baptised on the 27th October 1816, at St Mary, Potsgrove, Bedfordshire, the daughter of William (a Bailiff) and Ann Paxton (nee Pitkin) who were married on the 29th December 1803, at St Mary, Woburn, Bedfordshire.

The 1841 census records William Mills (25), a Chemist, living in Market Place, Bicester, with Eliza (25) and their children, Eleanor (2), (recorded as Helen on ancestry) and William (5 months)
The 1851 census records Eliza (35) and her daughters, Eleanor (11) and Jessie (8), living at Langford Farm, Bicester, with her parents, Ann (67) and William Paxton (67), a Farmer of 500 acres, employing 14 Labourers and 3 servants.
Eliza’s father, William Paxton, died aged 76, on the 11th December 1859, in Bicester.
In 1861 Eliza (45), a Fundholder, her daughters Eleanor Mills (21) and Jessie Mills (18), were living in Swan Street, Bicester, with Eliza’s widowed mother, Ann Paxton (77), a retired Farmer, her sister Mary Flint (51), her sister-in-law, Ann Paxton (60) and a house servant.
Eliza’s mother Ann Paxton, died aged 80, in 1864, in Bicester
In 1871 Eliza (56) was recorded as an Annuitant, living in St Mary Hill, Newbury, Berkshire, with her married sister Mary Ann Flint (61), her brother-in-law, Henry Flint (63), a Coal Merchant and two domestic servants.
The 1881 census records Eliza (64), living in Craven Street, Newbury, Berkshire, with her married daughter Eleanor Tucker (41), her granddaughters Jessie Tucker (18) and Jessie Slocock (12) and her nieces Jessie Paxton (30) and Hester Paxton (29). All were recorded as Ladies.
In 1891 Eliza (75) was living on her own means. She was still living in Craven Street Newbury, Berkshire. Her granddaughter Jessie Tucker (28) and her nieces Jessie Paxton (41) and Hester Paxton (38) were still living with her.
Eliza died aged 76, on the 14th August 1892, she was laid to rest in a private grave, in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 17th August.
(Eliza’s granddaughter, Jessie Louisa Martin (nee Tucker) died in 1936, she was laid to rest with Eliza on the 20th January. Her husband Robert Martin, died the following year and was laid to rest with Eliza and Jessie, on the 28th April 1937)
