Emily Elizabeth was born in Thatcham, Berkshire, the daughter of John and Louisa Tuggy (nee Clift). (See marriage details below)

Her father John was baptised on the 24th January 1819, in Thatcham, Berkshire, the son of James and Rachel Tuggy (nee Carter) who were married on the 22nd August 1805, at St Thomas, Portsmouth, Hampshire. In 1841 John Tuggey (25) was recorded as a Male Servant, living in Wargrave Village, Berkshire.

Her mother Louisa was baptised on the 18th February 1821, in Cookham, daughter of Paul and Eliza Clift. In 1841 Louisa (20) was recorded as a Female Servant, living in Featherslow Buildings, St Andrew, Holborn, Middlesex

Emily’s parents John and Louisa married in 1843:

Groom: John Tuggy, aged 24, bachelor, occupation, Cordwainer

Bride: Louisa Clift, aged 22, spinster

Fathers: James Tuggy and Paul Clift

Witnesses: James Clift and Elizabeth Clift

John and Louisa also had a daughter Elizabeth, who was baptised on the 17th March 1844, in Wargrave.

Emily’s parents both died in 1850, they were buried at St Mary, Thatcham, Berkshire. John was buried on the 7th August. Louisa was buried on the 15th December.

After her parents died Emily went to live with her aunt and uncle, Henry and Mary Tuggy.

In 1851, 1861 and 1871 Emily was recorded living in Newland Street, Kensington Middlesex, as follows:

1851: Henry (26), a Master Shoemaker, and Mary (30) and Emily (2). (Surname mistakenly recorded as Suggy on ancestry) (Her sister Elizabeth (7) was living with her aunt and uncle Richard and Elizabeth Tuggy, in Burghfield Berkshire in 1851).

1861: Henry (36), a Master Boot and Shoemaker, Mary (37) their nephew, Henry Tuggy (17) and their nieces, Elizabeth Tuggy (17) and Emily Tuggy (11).

1871: Henry (47) a Shoemaker, Mary (50) and Emily (21), a Needlewoman (surname recorded as Yaggy on ancestry)

By 1881 Henry (56), a Retired Shoemaker, Mary (64) and Emily (33), a Dressmaker, were living in Westfields, Newbury, Berkshire. (Surname recorded a Quggy on ancestry)

Emily died aged 34, on the 18th January 1883, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th January.
