Eleanor, her parents, siblings and early life:

Elenor was born in Bicester, Oxfordshire, the daughter of William and Eliza Mills (nee Paxton) who were married on the 7th August 1838, in Bicester (both were single, William was a Chemist. Dads were William Mills, a Gentleman and William Paxton, a Farmer)

Eleanor’s mother Eliza was baptised in 1816, at St Mary, Potsgrove, Bedfordshire, the daughter of William and Ann Paxton (nee Pitkin) who were married in 1803, at St Mary, Woburn, Bedfordshire.

Her father William was born c1816.

William and Eliza also had the following four children:

William Faulkner born 8th January 1841, baptised R. C. 7th January 1842, in Bicester (dad a Chemist, abode, Market Place)

James Paxton, born 25th December 1841, baptised Jonas Paxton 26th January 1842, in Bicester (dad a Chemist, abode, Market Place) (died aged 0 in 1842, recorded as Jonas Paxton on FreeBMD and James Paxton on the GRO webside)

Jessey Harriott (Jessie Harriette) born c1843

Henry Langford born 1845 (died aged 5 months, buried 27th September 1845, in Bicester)

The 1841 census records Eleanor (2), (recorded as Helen) living in Market Place, Bicester, with her father William Mills (25), a Chemist, her mother Eliza (25) and her brother William (5 months).

The 1851 census records Eleanor (11) living at Langford Farm, Bicester, with her grandparents William Paxton (67), a Farmer of 500 acres, employing 14 labourers and Ann Paxton (67), her mother Eliza Mills (35), her sister Jessie (8) and 3 servants.

In 1861 Eleanor (21) was living in Swan Street, Bicester, with her widowed grandmother, Ann Paxton (77), a retired Farmer, her mother Eliza (45) a Fundholder, her aunts, Mary Flint (51) and Ann Paxton (60), her sister Jessie (18) and a house servant.

Witnesses: Jonas Paxton, Charles Tucker and Jessie Mills

(Owen was baptised (Baptist) on the 27th April 1833, in Somerset, the son of Edward and Sarah Tucker (nee Smith) who were married on the 8th April 1823, at St Michael, Bath, Somerset)

Owen and Eleanor had the following children (all born in Bath):

Rose, born c1862 (died 1862, soon after birth)

Jessie Louisa, born c1863

James, born 1863 (died 1863, soon after birth)

Joseph, born 1865 (died 1865, soon after birth)

Florence Mary, born 1866 (died aged 7, in 1873)

The 1871 census records Owen (38) as a Surgeon, living at 27 Claverton Street, Bath, Somerset, with Eleanor (32) and their daughters, Jessie (8) (mistakenly recorded as Sophie on ancestry) and Florence (4).

Eleanor was widowed in 1873. Owen died aged 42, on the 16th October, in Bath.

The 1881 census records Eleanor (41), living in Craven Street, Newbury, Berkshire, with her widowed mother Eliza Mills (64), her daughter Jessie Tucker (18), her cousins, Jessie Paxton (30), Hester Paxton (29) and her niece Jessie Slocock (12) all were recorded as Ladies.

Eleanor died aged 41, on the 26th April 1881, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 29th April.

Eleanor’s mother died aged 76, on the 14th August 1892. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 17th August.
