Albert Tucker
1864-1954
Albert, his parents, siblings and early life:
Albert was born on the 28thJanuary 1864, in Newbury, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 1st May 1864, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, the son of William (a Labourer) and Elizabeth Tucker (nee Curtis) who were married on the 25th December 1852, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury.
Albert’s father William was born in Brimpton Berkshire the son of John and Charlotte Tucker (nee Bidmead) who were married on the 29thMay 1813 in Brimpton Berkshire. William married Ann Brown in 1847 (marriage registered in Newbury), he was widowed the following year. Ann died aged 19, she was buried on 26th July 1848 at St Peter, Brimpton, Berkshire. In 1851 William (28) was working as a Labourer and was lodging at the Black Bear Inn in Market Street, Newbury, he remarried the following year.
Albert’s mother Elizabeth was born c1835 in Newbury the daughter of Adam & Sarah Curtis (nee Danvers) who were married on the 5th October 1834, at St Nicolas Church Newbury.
William and Elizabeth also had the following nine children but sadly only two, Albert and his brother Thomas survived to adulthood:

The 1871 census records William (58) as a Miller, living in St Mary Hill, Newbury, with Elizabeth (39) and their sons, Albert (7) and Thomas (1). (Surname recorded as Suster on ancestry)
In 1881 William (60), a Carman, Elizabeth (46), a Shopkeeper, Albert (16), a Miller and Thomas (10), were recorded living in Greenham Street, Greenham, Newbury, Berkshire.
Albert’s father William died aged 57 on the 11th February 1882, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 17th February.
His mother Elizabeth remarried later the same year, her 2nd husband was Richard Middleton, a Gardener. The 1891 census records them living in St Mary’s Hill and the 1901 census records the couple living at 78 Cheap Street, Newbury. Richard Middleton died in 1908 in Newbury District Hospital. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th March. Elizabeth was recorded as an old age pensioner living at 2 Hillman’s Cottages, Stroud Green, Newbury, in the 1911 census. She died aged 74 in 1912 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6thApril.

Albert was recorded working as a Grocer’s Porter in 1891, a Carman in 1901, a Painter’s Labourer in 1911 and an Iron Foundry Labourer, at Plenty & Son, in 1921.
Albert and Elizabeth were recorded lived in Rosemary Terrace, Enborne Road, Newbury, in the 1891, 1901, 1911 and 1921 census records the 1939 Register.

Albert died aged 90, on the 15th June 1954. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th June.
