NRC quotes West Berks Museum – Workhouse records as listing him as Ernest Chas Thatcher died 27^th Aug 1888 – 16 months old.

 Parish from where they were admitted to workhouse was Donnington – WH Master was William Hawkes

FMP – Eng and Wales Births say mother’s maiden name was Thatcher which suggests she was unmarried and probably the reason she and baby Charles ended up in the workhouse.
