Phoebe Lilian Leader

1896-1908

Phoebe Lilian was born in Baydon, Wiltshire, the daughter of Joseph and Emily Leader (nee Farr) who were married in 1894 (marriage registered in the December quarter in Newbury)

Her mother Emily was born in Speen, Berkshire, the daughter of Albert and Mary Farr (nee Allen) who were married on the 20^th October 1864, in Ramsbury, Wiltshire.

Her father Joseph was born in 1856, in Baydon, Wiltshire, the son of Joseph and Mary Leader (nee Rushen/Rushan/Rushon/Rushen) who were married on the 11^th June 1851, in Ramsbury, Wiltshire. Joseph was a widower when he married Emily. He married Frances Hayward in 1878, in Wiltshire, they had the following children: Ernest William, 1880, Joseph Brice, 1881, Frances Mary, c1883 and Alice Beatrice, 1888. Joseph was widowed in 1892.

Phoebe had a sister, Bertha Emily, born in 1898, in Baydon, Wiltshire.

In 1901 Joseph (44), a Farmer, Emily (35) Ernest (20), Alice (12), Phoebe (4) and Bertha (2), were living in Stockcross, Berkshire.

Phoebe died aged 12 on the 14^th September 1908, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18^th September.

Phoebe’s parents after her death:

The 1911 census records Joseph (54), a Poultry Keeper, Emily (45) and their daughter Bertha Emily (12), living in Curridge Common, Newbury.

The 1921 census records all three living at Lanolee Farm, Curridge, Berkshire.

Phoebe’s father Joseph died aged 72, on the 20^th December 1928, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery with Phoebe Lilian, on the 24^th December. At the time of his death Joseph was living at the Cottage Cow House Farm, North Sydmonton, Hampshire

By 1930 Phoebe’s mother Emily was living at 21 St John’s Road, Newbury, her sister Alice Farr was living with her.

Emily’s sister Alice, died in 1935, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10^th April.

The 1937 Electoral Register records Phoebe’s mother Emily living alone at 21 St John’s Road, Newbury.

Emily died aged 71 on the 6^th June 1937. At the time of her death Emily was living with her married daughter Bertha Emily Hinder, and her family, in Kingsmill Road, Swindon. Her body was brought to Newbury and she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10^th June, with her husband Joseph and Phoebe Lilian.
