William Lovell

William, his parents, half-siblings and full siblings:

William was baptised on the 8^th January 1815, in Silverstone, Northamptonshire, the son of William (a Publican) and Frances Lovell, (formerly Thornton, nee Leaver) who were married on the 11^th February 1814, in Whittlebury and Silverstone.

William’s father William was born 1788 in Towcester, Northamptonshire. Possible death, aged 82, buried 28^th April 1870, at St Anne, Silverstone.

His mother Frances was baptised on the 2^nd February 1755, at St Peter, East Brigdford, Northamptonshire the daughter of Robert and Mary Leevers. Frances married Henry Thornton on the 1^st January 1795, in Whittlebury and Silverstone. They had the following children baptised in Whittlebury and Silverstone: Benjamin, 3^rd June 1798, Elizabeth, 3^rd April 1802 and John, 11^th January 1807. Frances was widowed in 1812. Henry died aged 52, he was buried in Silverstone on the 31^st August. Frances died aged 56, in 1831, she was buried on the 22^nd February, in Silverstone.

William and Frances also had the following two daughters, baptised in Silverstone:

** A Higler was a travelling merchant or trader, similar to a peddler or hawker, who sold small goods, particularly provisions, and often bartered with their customers, especially farmers. They walked the countryside, calling out their wares and knowing what goods were in demand in different areas

(Caroline was baptised on the 5^th February 1816, at St Michael and All Angels, Colwich, Staffordshire, the daughter of William (a Labourer) and Elizabeth Holliss, of Bishton, late of Colwich, Staffordshire.)

In 1841 William (25) and Caroline (20) were recorded living in Green Lane, Silverstone, with his William’s widowed father William (50), a Labourer and his sisters, Frances (20) and Mary (20). (Family surname mistakenly recorded as Tovell on ancestry)

William and Caroline had a son, Simon born 1841, baptised as Simon Hollis, on the 28^th November 1841, in Silverstone.

In 1851 William (34), a Higler, was living in Silverstone, with Caroline (31), their son Simon (11), his father William (63), a Labourer and his uncle, Simon Lovell (56), a Laoburer.

The 1861 census records Willliam (40), as a Higler, living in West End, Silverstone, with his father William (75), also recorded as a Higler, Caroline (40) a Seamstress and Simon (20), a Labourer. (Surname recorded as Lovea on ancestry)

In 1871 William (55), a Timber Carter and Caroline (50), were recorded lodging at the Duke’s Arms, Market Street, Kettering, Northamptonshire.

The 1881 census records William (62) as a Carman, living in Morlands Cottages, Greenham Street, Greenham, Berkshire, with Caroline (60) (recorded as Ellen C) and their grandson Frederick (12) a Plough Boy

William was widowed in 1885. Caroline died aged 65, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 11^th December.

In 1891 William (76), a General Labourer, was recorded as an inmate in the Newbury Workhouse.

William died aged 82, on the 27^th September 1898, in the Newbury Workhouse and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30^th September.
