Simon Lovell

1841-1906

Simon was born in Silverstone, Northamptonshire. He was baptised as Simon Hollis, on the 28^th November 1841, in Silverstone, the son of William and Caroline Lovell (nee Hollis(s)) who were married on the 26^th December 1839, in Silverstone.

His father William was baptised on the 8^th January 1815, in Silverstone, Northamptonshire, the son of William (a Publican) and Frances Lovell, (formerly Thornton, nee Leaver) who were married on the 11^th February 1814, in Whittlebury and Silverstone. William died aged 82, on the 27^th September 1898, in the Newbury Workhouse. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30^th September

His mother Caroline was baptised on the 5^th February 1816, at St Michael and All Angels, Colwich, Staffordshire, the daughter of William (a Labourer) and Elizabeth Holliss, of Bishton, late of Colwich, Staffordshire. Caroline died aged 65, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 11^th December.

In 1851 William (34), a Higler, was living in Silverstone, with Caroline (31), their son Simon (11), his father William (63), a Labourer and his uncle, Simon Lovell (56), a Laoburer.

The 1861 census records Willliam (40), as a Higler, living in West End, Silverstone, with his father William (75), also recorded as a Higler, Caroline (40) a Seamstress and Simon (20), a Labourer. (Surname recorded as Lovea on ancestry)

Simon married in 1861.

(Sarah Ann was born in 1841, she was baptised on the 10^th October 1841, in Silverstone, Northamptonshire, the daughter of William (a Sawyer) and Lydia Hale (nee Chapman) who were married on the 2^nd April 1840, in Silverstone, (surname at time of marriage recorded as Hayle).

Simon and Sarah Ann had the following children (all baptised in Silverstone):

John born 1864, baptised as John Charles, 6^th November 1864 (died aged 1 in 1865)

In 1871 Simon (29), an Agricultural Labourer, Sarah (29), Ernest (8), Charles (4) and Frederick (2), were recorded living at 136 Cattle End, Silverstone

In 1881 Simon (39) was working as a General Labourer, he was living in Morlands Cottages, Greenham, Berkshire, with Sarah (39), Ernest (18), a General Labourer, Charles (14), a General Labourer, Frederick (12), Mary Ann (7) and Ellen (3) (Caroline Ellen).

The 1891 census records Simon (49), a General Labourer, Sarah (49), Mary (17), a Laundress and Caroline (14), living in Barlow’s Buildings, Greenham, Berkshire.

In 1901 Simon (59) was working as a Carter for a Timber Dealer’s. He was living at 1 Kings Road, Newbury, (now known as Kings Road West) with Sarah (59), his son-in-law, William Loveridge (26) a Tractor Engine Driver, his daughter Caroline Loveridge (24), his grandson, William Loveridge (3) and his granddaughter Winifred Loveridge (1)

Simon died aged 65 on the 20^th April 1906. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24^th April. At the time of his death, he was living at 1 Charles Place, Newbury.

Sarah continued to live at 1 Charles Place, until her death. She died aged 67, on the 31^st January 1909 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4^th February.
