Charles Lovell
1866-1940
Charles, his parents, siblings and early life:
Charles (aka John Charles) was born on the 1st July 1866, in Silverstone, Northamptonshire. He was baptised on the 6th June 1869, (with his brother Simon, born1869, baptised as Frederick Simon) in Silverstone, the sons of Simon and Sarah Ann Lovell (nee Hayle) who were married on the 10th October 1861, in Silverstone.
His father Simon was born in Silverstone, Northamptonshire. He was baptised as Simon Hollis, on the 28th November 1841, in Silverstone, the son of William and Caroline Lovell (nee Hollis(s)) who were married on the 26th December 1839, in Silverstone.
His mother Sarah Ann was born in 1841, she was baptised on the 10th October 1841, in Silverstone, Northamptonshire, the daughter of William (a Sawyer) and Lydia Hale (nee Chapman) who were married on the 2nd April 1840, in Silverstone, (surname at time of marriage recorded as Hayle)
Simon and Sarah Ann also had the following children baptised in Silverstone:
William Ernest born 1862, baptised as Ernest William, 15th January 1863
John born 1864, baptised as John Charles, 6th November 1864 (died aged 1 in 1865)
Mary Elizabeth born 1871, baptised Mary Elizabeth Rose Ann, 5th November 1871 (died aged 1 in 1872)
Mary Ann born 1873, baptised 24th June 1874
Caroline Ellen born 20th August 1877, baptised 7th October 1877
and
Thomas born 1881 in Greenham, Berkshire (died aged 3 in 1884, buried 26th July, at St Mary, Greenham)
In 1871 Simon (29), an Agricultural Labourer, Sarah (29), Ernest (8), Charles (4) and Frederick (2), were recorded living at 136 Cattle End, Silverstone
In 1881 Simon (39) was working as a General Labourer, he was living in Morlands Cottages, Greenham, Berkshire, with Sarah (39), Ernest (18), a General Labourer, Charles (14), a General Labourer, Frederick (12), Mary Ann (7) and Ellen (3) (Caroline Ellen).

(Amy Eliza was born 1862, in Hampstead Norreys, Berkshire, the daughter of Henry and Hannah Tucker, nee Whornam/Wernham, who were married in 1861 (marriage registered in Wantage)
Soon after they married, they moved to the United States.
While living in the U.S.A. Amy Eliza gave birth to two sons, Charles Milton c1888 and William Henry, born 22nd June 1893
By 1901 the family were back living in England. The census for this year records Charles (34), a Gas Stoker Foreman, Amy (38), Charles Milton (12) and William Henry (7), living at 2 St John’s Villa Cottages, Greenham Road, Newbury.
The 1911 census records Charles (44), as a Gas Stoker, living at the same address, with his wife Amy (48) and their son William (17) as a Brewery Clerk.
In 1921 Charles (54) was working as a Gas Works Labourer for Newbury Corporation. He was living at 1 Greenham Road, Newbury, with Amy (59), their son William (27), a Civilian Clerk, for the Royal Air Force, in Milton, Berks, their daughter-in-law, Ethel (30), (widow of their son Charles Milton, died 1918) and their grandson, Charles (3).
Charles was widowed in 1926, Amy Eliza died aged 63 on the 1st February, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th February.
Charles remarried in 1932.

The 1939 Register records Charles (now retired) and Ellen living in Greenham Road, Newbury.
Charles died aged 74 on the 7th February 1940. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th February.
