EMMA DELL    1826 - 1866

 

Emma is born on 23 March 1826 at Greenham to Charles & Maria Payne. According to the Baptism record, she was baptised on the same day at the Northcroft Lane Baptist Meeting House, Newbury.

 

In 1841, aged 15, she is a servant to the Adey family in the St Nicholas area of Newbury.

 

In 1851 she is 24 & a Dressmaker. Emma is living with her parents, who are both Paupers, in Goldings Yard, Thatcham. Chapelry of Greenham. A widowed brother in law & niece are living with them.

 

In 1861 she is 35 & still a Dressmaker. She is living with her widowed mother, a Pauper, in Bridge Yard, Greenham.

 

In 1862 she marries Edwin Dell, a widower. Q4 Newbury 2c 468.

 

Emma dies in Q2 1866 Newbury 2c 150, aged 41at Greenham. She dies from Phthsis Pulmonalis (Pulmonary TB or Consumption). James Miller of St Mary’s Hill, Newbury is present. She is described as “Wife of Edwin Dell, Cordwainer”.

Emma was buried at NRC on 14 May 1866.

 

Edwin was married 3 times. First to Hannah in 1849 & had a son, also named Edwin (Ref: 7595). Then to Emma & finally to Phoebe in 1867.
