Elizabeth Allen
1851-1888
Elizabeth was born in 1851 in Gloucestershire, the daughter of William and Sarah Pitt (nee Jones) who were married on the 13th June 1846 at St John the Baptist, Gloucester.
Elizabeth’s mother Sarah was born c1814 in St Paul’s London. She had a son William V. Jones c1838 in Herefordshire
Her father William was born c1824 in Herefordshire
The 1851 census records William Pitt (27), a Blacksmith, Sarah Pitt (37), William Jones (13), Richard Pitt (4) and Alfred (2), living in Joy’s Green, Linton, Herefordshire.
The 1861 census records William (37), a House Servant, Sarah (47), a Dressmaker, Alfred (12) and Elizabeth (9), living at 6 Chapel Place, Islington, Middlesex.
The 1871 census records Elizabeth (19) as a Housekeeper, she was living at 47 Grove Street, Marylebone, London, with her half-brother William V. Jones (32), a Coachmaker and a lodger.
Elizabeth married in 1878.

(William was born in 1852 in Burghclere, Hampshire, the son of Charles and Charlotte Allen (nee Taylor) who were married on the 4th March 1848 in Burghclere).
Elizabeth gave birth to a daughter in 1879. This child died soon after birth, she was not given a name.
William and Elizabeth also had the following three children:
Kathleen Margaret, born c1882, baptised on the 2nd April 1882
William Charles, born 1884, baptiaed 15th June 1884
(Both baptised at Ecchinswell with Sydmonton, Hampshire. Dad recorded as a Gardener, abode, New Cottages, Sydmonton)
Henry Thomas, born c1886, in Greenham (died aged 6 months, buried 12th July 1886, at St Mary, Greenham).
The 1881 census records William (28) as a Gardener, living in Sydmonton, Hampshire, with Elizabeth (29).
William died aged 33, in 1886, (death registered in Newbury). He was buried on the 13th March 1886 in Burghclere, Hampshire.
Elizabeth committed suicide on the 18th October 1888. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd October.
