Charlotte, her parents, siblings and early life:

Charlotte was born in Highclere, Hampshire in 1840. She was baptised on the 22nd November 1840 in Highclere, the daughter of Charles and Rebecca Stratford (nee Aldridge) who were married on the 8th June 1833, in East Woodhay, Hampshire. (Charles was from Burghclere)

Her mother Rebecca was baptised on the 27th January 1805, in Kingsclere, Hampshire, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Aldridge (nee Taylor) who were married on the 26th November 1798, in Kingsclere.

Her father Charles was baptised on the 20th October 1807 in Froxfield, Wiltshire, the son of Valentine and Martha Stratford (nee Chandler) who were married on the 10th November 1806, in Hungerford, Berkshire.

Charles and Rebecca also had the following children:

Charles, baptised 7th July 1833, in Kingsclere

Thomas, baptised 4th October 1835, in Burghclere

George, baptised 4th February 1838, in Highclere

Ann, baptised 25th June 1843, in Highclere

Valentine, baptised 12th October 1845, in Highclere

In 1841 Charlotte (7 months) was living in Highclere, Hampshire, with her father Charles (30) an Agricultural Labourer, her mother Rebecca (30) and her siblings Charles (8), Thomas (5) and George (3).

Charlotte (10) was still living in Highclere in 1851, with Charles (41), Rebecca (42) and her siblings, Ann (7) and Valentine (5).

Charlotte in later life:

By 1861 Chalotte (22) was working as a House Servant, for the Rector of Whitney, Richard Sankey and his family, at the Rectory, Whitney, Oxford.

Charlotte married in 1868

(Frederick was born in Greenham, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 4th November 1838 at St Mary, Greenham the son of John and Jemima Allen (nee Hobson) who were married on the 4th December 1837, in St Marylebone, Middlesex).

 

In 1871 Frederick (33) was working as a Carter/Agricultural Labourer, living in Enborne Oil Mills, Enborne, Berkshire, with Charlotte (30)

The 1881 census records Frederick (41) and Charlotte (40) living in Smith’s Buildings, Marsh Road, Newbury. Frederick was recorded as a Gardener.

The 1891 census records Frederick (52) as a Coachman, living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury with Charlotte (50)

The 1901 census records Frederick (62) as a General Labourer, living at 77 Bartholomew Street, Newbury with Charlotte (60).

Charlotte was widowed in 1908 Frederick died aged 69. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th February.

The 1911 census records Charlotte (70) living on her own means, at 47 Bartholomew Street, Newbury. By 1920 Charlotte was living at 107 Bartholomew Almshouses, Newbury.

Charlotte died aged 79 in 1920. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd July.
