John Angell
c1799-1867
John was baptised in 1799 in Chilton Foliat, Wiltshire, the son of James and Elizabeth Angel (nee Pontin) who were married in 1794 in Chilton Foliat.
John Angell married Mary Lucy Harvey Field on the 7th February 1829, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire.
(Mary Lucy Harvey was baptised in 1810 in Rotherhithe, London, the daughter of Daniel and Maria Jane Field (nee Clements) who were married on the 18th December 1809, in Westminster).
John and Mary had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Church, Newbury:
William Field Angel, born 8th April 1833, baptised 1st May 1833 (dad a Cordwainer of Bartholomew Street) died aged 4 months, buried 10th July 1833 at St Nicolas, Newbury.
Maria Jane Angel, born 10th July 1834, baptised 3rd August 1834 (dad a Shoemaker of Northbrook Street)
Daniel Field Angel, born 16th July 1836, baptised 7th August 1836 (dad a Shoemaker of Northbrook Street)
The 1841 census records John Angel (40), a Shoemaker, Mary (30), Maria (7) and Daniel (5), living in Lewis’s Buildings, Bartholomew Street, Newbury.
In 1851 John Angell (50) was recorded as a Boot Maker living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury with his wife Mary (37) a Needlewoman and his son Daniel (15) an Apprentice Watch and Clock Maker.
The 1861 census records John Angle (59) as a Shoemaker, living in Porters Yard, Bartholomew Street, Newbury. Mary Angel (49) was recorded as a Seamstress, living with her father Daniel Field (80), a Tailor, in Bartholomew Street, Newbury.
John Angell died aged 68 in 1867. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th September.
The 1871 census records Mary Angel (59) as a Tailoress, living at 10, St Mary Hill, Newbury.
In 1881 Mary Angell (69) was recorded as an Almswoman living in Cheap Street, Newbury.
Mary Angell died in 1883.She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th August.
