George Allum
c1833-1920
George was baptised on the 20th January 1833, in Wantage, Berkshire, the son of Thomas and Rachel Allum (nee Hedges) who were married on the 25th March 1827 in Wantage.
George’s siblings were:

A male child born 1842, (died 1842, without being named)
Charles 1844 (died in 1870, buried in the Newtown Road Newbury on the 5th January)
In 1841 George (7) was living in Tanner’s Street, Wantage, with his mother Rachel (35), a Labourer and his siblings, Frederick (10), Maria (5) and a William Allum (20) and a Thomas Whiting (27)
The 1851 census records George (18) as an Agricultural Labourer, lodging in Locks Lane, Wantage. (Surname recorded as Adam on Ancestry)
The 1861 census records George (27) lodging in Hassell’s Yard Speen, Berkshire, with a Mary Allen (60) and her husband John Allen (62) an Agricltural Labourer.
George married Ann Berry on the 18th January 1862, at St Michael and All Angels, Enborne, Berkshire.
(Ann was baptised on the 11th November 1832 in South Tidworth, Hampshire, the daughter of James and Susannah Berry (nee Tarrant) who were married in 1832 in South Tidworth, Hampshire).
The 1871 census record George (37), a Brewer’s Labourer, living in Speenhamland, Berkshire. Ann (39) was working as a Cook, at Hungerford Park House for a George Shippen Willes, a Magistrate.
In 1881 George (47), a Brewer’s Drayman and Ann (48) were living in Speenhamland. (Surname recorded as Allenn on ancestry)
The 1891 census records George (57) a Brewer’s Drayman, Ann (58) and their nephew, Sidney G. A. Reeves (11), living at 8 Hassell’s Buildings, Speenhamland, Berkshire.
They were still living at 8 Hassell’s Buildings in 1901 and George was still working as a Brewer’s Drayman. Their nieces Mary Reeves (42), Brenda Reeves (4) and their nephew Sidney Reeves (21) were also living with them.
The 1911 census records George (77) as a Brewer’s Labourer’s Pensioner and Ann (78), living at The Lamb Cottages, Enborne Road, Newbury, Berkshire.
They continued to live in Lamb Cottages until their deaths.
Ann died on the 31st January 1917. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th February.
George died aged 87 on the 3rd November 1920, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th November.
