Sarah was baptised on the 20th March 1779 in Weston Patrick, Hampshire, the daughter of Robert and Esther Henwood (nee Hall) who were married on the 28th November 1771, in Weston Patrick.

Sarah’s siblings were (all baptised in Weston Patrick):

Robert, 11th October 1772

William, 28th August 1774

Esther, 14th July 1776

Elizabeth Ann, 28th December 1790

 

Sarah married John Adams on the 8th September 1805, at St Mary, Greenham, Berkshire. (Both were from Greenham)

(John was baptised on either the 5th or 6th October 1775, at St Lawrence Alton, Hampshire, the son of John and Ann Adams nee Swain, who were married on the 21st January 1771 at St Lawrence, Alton. (John was from Upton Gray)).

John and Sarah had the following children (baptised at St Nicolas Church, Newbury):

John, born 10th July, baptised 10th August 1806

Hester, born 22nd October, baptised 20th November 1808

Ann, born 7th April, baptised 25th April 1811

Mary Ann, born 26th December 1812, baptised 24th January 1813

Thomas, baptised 29th October 1815

George, baptised 27th September 1818

Sarah, baptised 29th April 1821

The 1815 census of Newbury records John (41) as a Carpenter, living on the west side of Mary Hill, Newbury, with Sarah (39), their children, John (9), Hester (6) and Mary Ann (2).

In 1841 John (65), a Carpenter, Sarah (60), Thomas (25), George (20) and Sarah (20), were recorded living in East Field, Newbury, Berkshire.

The 1851 census records John (75) as a Carpenter, living in Newbury Wharf, with Sarah (74), their daughter Sarah (30), a Laundress and her daughter Caroline Adams (3).

Sarah died aged 76 in 1853. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14th May.

In 1861 John (85) was recorded lodging in Back Lane, Greenham, with his married son Thomas (44), his daughter-in-law Mary Ann (48) and his grandson William (19).

John died aged 88 in 1863. He was buried on the 18th November at St Mary, Greenham.
