Nathaniel Purdue

c1837-1860

Nathaniel was born in Hampstead Norris, Berkshire, he was baptised on the 17^th September 1837 in Hampstead Norris, the son of William and Ann Purdue (nee Eyles) who were married on the 29^th March 1929, at St Nicolas, Newbury.

His father William was born on the 24^th April 1805, he was baptised on the 29^th May 1805 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire, the son of James and Hannah Purdue (nee Skinner) who were married on the 5^th July 1784, at St Nicolas, Newbury (witnesses, Samuel Purdue and Jane Cook).

His mother Ann Eyles was born c1805 in Berkshire.

William and Ann also had the following children:

Joseph born 1846 (died 1846, buried 8^th June at St Mary, Hampstead Norris)

John born c1849 (died aged 20 on the 24^th June 1869, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27^th June)

The 1841 census records William (30) as a Baker, living in Church Street, Hampstead Norris, Berkshire, with Ann (30) and their children, Nathaniel (2) and Sarah (1). (Surname recorded as Purden on ancestry)

Ann died aged 44 in 1851. She was buried on the 9^th March at St Mary, Thatcham.

The 1851 census records William (49) as a Baker, living at the Traveller’s Friend, Thatcham, Berkshire, with his children, Nathaniel (13), Mary Ann (11) (Sarah Ann), William (9), George (7) and John (2).

His father William died aged 53 in 1858. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3^rd September.

Nathaniel died in 1860 in Greenham, Berkshire. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1^st February. (Age at death recorded as 20, NBI and BBI recorded as 21)
