George was an Agricultural Labourer. He was baptised on the 13th January 1821/1822 in Thatcham, Berkshire, the son of James and Mary Owen (nee Vince) who were married in 1809 in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

George married Hannah Flitter (surname spelt Frater) on the 30th September 1854 in Thatcham, Berkshire.

(Hannah was baptised on the 14th July 1833 in Thatcham, the daughter of William and Eliza Fritter (nee Bridgman) who were married on the 14th July 1827 at St Mary’s Church Thatcham).

George and Hannah had the following children:

In 1861 the family were living in Oare Street, Chieveley, Berkshire.

The 1871 census records the family living in Oare village, Chieveley.

By 1881 they were living in “Old Crown Cottages”, Oxford Road, Chieveley.

George died aged 70 in the Newbury Workhouse, on the 17th February 1886, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd February.

Hannah (56) was recorded in the 1891 census as an Agricultural Labourer, living in Horsemoor, Chieveley, with her sons George (26), Henry (22) and her daughter Rose (17).

She died aged 59 in 1891 and was buried on the 6th September at St Mary the Virgin Chieveley.
