Eileen Gertrude was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of William Joseph Gough and Edith Ellen O’Farrell (nee Goodyear) who were married in 1897 (marriage registered in Newbury)

Her father William was a seaman. He was born Joseph William Gough on the 29th May 1866 in Mount Town, Kingstown Dublin, Ireland, the son of Joseph Patrick (a Gas Inspector) and Sophia O’Farrell (nee Gough) who were married on the 18th June 1860 in Christ Church, St Marylebone, Middlesex. William died on the 8th June 1901 at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, New South Wales Australia.

Her mother Edith Ellen was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Alfred John and Maria Goodyear (nee Sheerman) who were married in 1865 (marriage registered in Newbury).

Edith Ellen gave birth to a son, Brian William John, on the 2nd November 1901 (after her husband died)

The 1901 census records Edith (33) living at the Corner House, Gloucester Road, Newbury, with her daughter Eileen (1) and a servant.

Eileen Gertrude died aged 6 years and 4 months, on the 22nd December 1905, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th December.

In 1911 Edith Ellen (42) and Brian (9) were recorded as visitors at the home of Alfred Camp (52), a Draper in Speen, Berkshire.

By 1918 They were living at Carrigeen 27 St John’s Road, Newbury.

Eileen’s mother died aged 68 on the 28th May 1935, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31st May, with Eileen.

Eileen’s brother Brian married Gladys Irene Norton in 1935 (marriage registered in Newbury)

The 1939 Register records Gladys and Brian living at 27 St John’s Road, Newbury, Brian was as a Wayleave Officer, working for the Electricity Supply Company.

Brian died on the 14th August 1964, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery with Edith Ellen and Eileen Gertrude on the 21st August.
