Frederick, his parents, siblings and early life:

Frederick Thomas was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Henry and Mary Ann Vickers (nee Bailey) who were married in 1874 (marriage registered in Newbury)

His father Henry was a Boiler Maker, he was born in 1850 in Horncastle Lincolnshire, the son of Thomas and Rebecca Vickers (nee Fanthorp(e), who were married on the 13th April 1848 at All Saints Nettleham, Lincolnshire. Henry died aged 74 on the 10th December 1924, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 13th December.

His mother Mary Ann was born in 1857 in Newbury Berkshire, the daughter of William and Sarah Elizabeth Bailey (nee Hobbs) who were married on the 29th April 1833 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. Mary Ann died aged 69 in the 26th June 1927 she was laid to rest (with her husband Henry) in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30th June

Frederick’s siblings were:
Twins: Margaret Ellen and Mary Elizabeth Rebecca 1876 (Mary Elizabeth Rebeca died aged 4 in 1880, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th December)

A male child 1877 (died 1877)

Annie Matilda 1881

Leah Charlotte 1882 (died aged 5 in 1887, buried in the Newtown Road cemetery on the 13th December)

In 1881 Henry (30) was recorded living at 9 Bedford Place, Newbury, Berkshire with Mary (23) and their daughters Margaret Ellen (2) and Annie Matilda (11 months).

The 1891 census records Henry (40), Mary (33) and their children, Margaret (12), Annie (10), Henry (6), Florence (5), Frederick (3) and William (1), living at 2, Falkland Terrace, Newbury

In 1901 Henry (50), Mary (43) and their children Margaret (22), a Florist’s Assistant, Annie (20), a Linen Wreath Worker, Henry (16), a Boiler Maker’s Apprentice, Florence (15), a Dressmaker’s Apprentice, Frederick (13), a Baker’s Apprentice, William (11), Dorothy (8) and Lilian (6) were living at “Crosscliffe” Andover Road, Newbury.

The 1911 census also records the family living at “Crosscliffe,” as follows: Henry (60), a General Labourer (Boiler Works), Mary Ann (54), Frederick Thomas (23), Planeing Machinist (Engineering Works), William Frank (21), a Boiler Rivetter (Boiler Works), Dorothy Louise (18), Dress Making, Lilian Mary (17) a Milliner and a granddaughter, Mabel Margaret Annie (5). (Daughter of their son Henry Charles and his wife Mabel Bessie (nee Humphries))

Frederick in later life:

Frederick married Kate Curtis in 1914 (marriage registered in Newbury)

(Kate was born in 1891 in Newbury, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Ann Curtis (nee Samuels) who were married in 1870, (married registered in Newbury)

Frederick and Kate had the following three children (all births registered in Newbury)

Kathleen Mary born 1915

Hilda Mabel born 1917 (died aged 3 months, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th December)

Dorothy Irene born 1920 (died aged 16 in 1936, she was buried with her parents in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd June)

The 1921 census records Frederick, Kate, Kathleen and Dorothy living in Andover Road, Newbury.

Frederick was widowed in 1921, Kate died aged 30 in the Newbury District Hospital on the 4th October, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th October 1921.

Frederick died aged 38 in the Newbury District Hospital on the 5th January 1926, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th January.
