Elizabeth Vaughan

Elizabeth, her parents, siblings and early life:

Elizabeth was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Freeman (nee Church) who were married in 1851 (marriage registered in Newbury).

Her father Francis was a Wheelwright and Carpenter. He was born c1825 in Berkshire, the son of Benjamin and Frances Freeman (nee Cooper), who were married in 1813 in Pangbourne, Berkshire.

Her mother Elizabeth was born in Bagnor, Berkshire, she was baptised on the 19^th September 1824 at St Mary the Virgin, Speen, Berkshire the base born daughter of Hannah Church of Bagnor.

Francis and Elizabeth also had the following children:

In 1861 Francis (36) Elizabeth (36) and their children Mary Ann (8), Sarah (6), James (4), Fanny (2) and Elizabeth (2 months) were living in Stroud Green, Greenham.

The 1871 census records Francis (46), Elizabeth (46), James (14), Fanny (12), Elizabeth (10), Jane (7) and Eliza (5), living in Stroud Green.

The 1881 census also records Francis Freeman ((56), Elizabeth Freeman (56) and their daughter Eliza (13), living in Stroud Green.

Elizabeth’s father Francis died aged 63 in 1888, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10^th September.

Her mother Elizabeth remarried in 1891. Her 2^nd husband was John Keep, a widower. She died aged 85 on the 8^th April 1910 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10^th April.

Elizabeth in later life:

In 1881 Elizabeth (20) was recorded working as a Domestic Servant, for a Thomas B Robertson (36), a Commission Merchant (Paint) and his family, in Bristol, Gloucestershire.

The 1891 census records Elizabeth (30) as a General Servant, living with her brother-in-law Walter Smith (24) (husband of her sister Jane), a Coffee House Keeper, at 17 Chestnut Grove, Streatham, London.

By 1901 Elizabeth (40) was the Coffee House Keeper, at 17, Chestnut Grove, Streatham. Mary Banister (35), a Cook and Edith Tursey (21), a Waitress, were living with her. (Surname recorded as Thelman on ancestry).

Elizabeth married John Vaughan in 1903 (a widower, marriage registered in Wandsworth).

The 1911 census records John (59), as a Farmer, living in Pembury, Kent with Elizabeth (50).

Elizabeth died aged 52 on the 6^th March 1913 in Kent, her body was brought to Newbury and she was laid to rest with her mother, on the 12^th March.

Probate: VAUGHAN – Elizabeth of Three Town Farm Pembury Kent (wife of John Vaughan) died 6^th March 1913 Administration London 23^rd April to the said John Vaughan farmer. Effects: £200 8s 3d.
