Martha Biddle was born on the 15th October 1804, she was baptised on the 30th December 1804 in Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire, the daughter of William and Patty Biddle (nee Butler) who were married on the 2nd November 1798 at St Mary, Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire (William was from great Marlow Buckinghamshire).

The 1841 census records Martha (30), as a female servant, living in South Lodge, Upper Beeding, Sussex.

Groom: John Vinall, full age, bachelor, occupation, Gardener, abode, Lower Beeding

Bride: Martha Biddle, full age, spinster, abode, Lower Beeding

Fathers: William Biddle, a Bootmaker and George Vinall, a Builder.

Witnesses: John Kay and Jane ? (possibly Norgant)

(John was baptised 27th October 1811 at Cowfold, Sussex the son of George and Philadelphia Vinal)

The 1851 census records Martha (40) living in Sulhampstead Abbots, Berkshire, with John (37)

In 1871 Martha (60) and John (57) were recorded living in Garden Cottage, Newtown, Hampshire.

Martha died aged 72 on the 25th March 1881, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 29th March.

In 1881 John Vinal (62) was living alone in Waterloo Place, Newbury

The 1891 census records John (79) living on own means, in Station Road, Church Gate, Cowfold, Sussex, with his niece Mary Vinall (43), his brother George (72) and his niece Clara Vinall (38).

He died aged 81 in 1893 (death registered in Cuckfield Sussex).
