Andrew Adams 1829-1864 Andrew was baptised on the 11th October 1829 at St Nicolas Newbury, the son of Robert (a Shoemaker/Cordwainer) and Martha Adams (nee Ball) who were married on the 28th June 1829 at St Mary Thatcham, Berkshire.

His father Robert was baptised on the 24th January 1808 in Farnborough Berkshire the son of William and Sarah Adams (nee Munday) who were married on the 21st October 1806 at All Saints, Farnborough, Berkshire. His mother Martha was baptised in 1808 in Burghclere, Hampshire, the daughter of Elizabeth Ball.

Andrew’s siblings were:

Sarah Ann baptised 18th September 1831

Elizabeth baptised 14th July 1833

David baptised 1st May 1836

Eliza Jane born 1840

The 1841 census records Andrew (11) living in the City, Newbury, with his parents and siblings. In 1851 Andrew (21) was working as a Groom and was lodging in West Mills, Newbury.

He married Emily Alway in 1854 (marriage registered in Newbury) (Emily was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Daniel and Frances Alway (nee Northway) who were married on the 27th December 1817 at St Mary Thatcham, Berkshire) Andrew and Emily had the following three sons: Henry born 1855 David Robert born 1857 (died aged 1 in 1859, buried in the NRC on the 11th February William born 1862 (died aged 3 in 1865, buried in the NRC on the 31st March).

The 1861 census records Andrew (29) as a Bricklayer’s Labourer living in St Mary’s Hill, Newbury Emily (26) and their son Henry (6). Andrew Adams died aged 35 in 1864, he was buried in the NRC on the 19th August.

Emily remarried in 1867, her 2nd husband was a widower, John Cooper. (John was born in Basildon, Berkshire, the son of John and Elizabeth Cooper (nee Champ) who were married on the 30th November 1835 in Hampstead Norris, Berkshire.

He married Emma Perris (nee Bradley) in 1862. They had a daughter Sophia born in 1862. John was widowed in 1866) In 1871 John and Emily had a son Thomas William born in 1867.

In 1871 John (30) was recorded as a Bricklayer’s Labourer, living in Northcroft Lane, Newbury with Emily (37), Sophia (7) and Thomas William (3). Emily’s son Henry was recorded living with his grandfather Daniel Alway.

Emily died aged 40 in 1873, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th June.
