Jesse his family and early life:

Jesse was born on the 14th August 1887 Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Albert and Julia Hannah Hazell (nee Parker) who were married in 1878 (marriage registered in Newbury).

His father was Albert Hazel, born on the 12th November 1852 in Newbury, the son of John and Eleanor (aka Ellen) Hazell (nee Curtis) who were married in 1846 in Newbury. Albert died aged 92 on the 3rd February 1945, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery with his wife Julia, on the 7th February.

His mother was Julia Hannah Parker, born in 1854 in Newbury, the illegitimate daughter of Lydia Parker. Julia died aged 74 in 1930, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd March.

Julia already had a daughter Martha Ellen (aka Ellen) Parker who was born on the 3rd February 1877.

Julia and Albert also had the following children:

Rosie (known as Rose) 1895

In 1881 Albert’s father Albert (28) was recorded as a General Labourer, living at 1 Clare Place, Newbury with Julia (23), Martha Parker (4) and Albert (1).

By 1891 the family had moved to 10 Shrewsbury Terrace, Newbury, Albert’s father was recorded as a Labourer in the census for this year.

The 1901 census records Albert (47) a self-employed Costermonger, Julia (46), Albert (19) a Hardware Shop Assistant, Jesse (13), Edward (10), Emily (9) and Rose (6) living at 10 Shrewsbury Terrace.

Fathers: Albert Hazell, a Green Grocer and Frederick Rawlings, a Plasterer

Witnesses: Rose Ellen Rawlings and Frederick Rawlings

Bride and Groom both signed

 

(Edith was born on the 17th September 1888 in Newbury the daughter of Frederick and Emily Rawlings (nee Heath) who were married in 1885 (marriage registered in Southampton)

They had the following two children (both born in Newbury):

Jesse Frederick Albert 1907 (died aged 11 months, buried 16th January 1908 in the Newtown Road Cemetery)

William George 12th February 1909

 

In 1911 Jesse (23) was recorded as a House Painter, living at 12 Shrewsbury Terrace Newbury with Edith (23) and their son William George (2).

The 1939 Register records Jesse and Edith living at 12 Shrewsbury Terrace (off Buckingham Road) Newbury. Jesse was recorded as a Glazier and Decorator.

Jesse died aged 76 in 1964, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th April.

Edith Emily died aged 76 on the 13th November 1964, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 19th November.
