1857-1862

Albert Henry Soper was born in Newbury he was the son of George & Sarah Soper (nee Prouting).

Albert’s father was a Tailor, he married twice, his 1st wife was Ann Cumbler, they married in Newbury in 1844 and had two daughters, Lucy Ann born c1846 and Charlotte born in 1847.

In 1851 the family were living in Kimber’s Yard Newbury.

Ann died aged 35 in 1851 she was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th May.

George remarried in 1852 his 2nd wife was Sarah Prouting (born Snelsmore 1829), they had the following children:

Elizabeth 1854

Edward John 1856

 Albert 1857

 Walter 1860

 Harriet 1861

Albert’s brother Walter died shortly after he was born he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th March 1860.

His mother Sarah died aged 31 the following year she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th March 1861.

After his mother’s death his sisters Harriet aged 2 months and her sister Sarah aged 8 went to stay with their grandparents John & Eliza Prouting in Chieveley. Harriet died the month after her mother and was laid to rest on the 15th April 1861 at St Mary the Virgin Chieveley.

Albert, his father George and siblings Charlotte, Elizabeth and Edward were living in Caroline Place Newbury in 1861.

Albert died aged 4 in 1862 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th May

In 1871 George was living in Hazell’s Yard. He died aged 58 in 1880 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18th December
