John was born in Greenham, Berkshire the son of John and Eliza Howes (nee Vickers) who were married in 1860 (marriage registered in Newbury)

His father John was a Gardener. He was baptised on the 26th June 1837 at St Leonard, Shoreditch, Hackney, Middlesex, the son of William Thomas and Mary Howes (nee Bantick) who were married on the 11th February 1834 at St Matthew, Bethnal Green London.

His mother Eliza was born in Greenham, Berkshire. She was baptised in 1841 in Greenham, the daughter of Charles and Sophia Vickers (nee White) who were married in Greenham in 1835.

John’s siblings were:

Eliza 1869

John, Eliza and their children were recorded living in Stroud Green in the 1871 and 1881 census records.

John died aged 16 in 1888, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 5th September.

His mother Eliza died aged 47 years 11 months on the 9th October 1888, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th October.

His father John continued to live in Stroud Green until his death. In 1891 his son William Charles (23), a Grocer’s Assistant and his daughter Eliza (21) were living with him. By 1901 he was living alone. The 1911 census records John as John House, living at 2 Hillmans Cottages, Stroud Green.

John’s sister Eliza died aged 23 in 1893, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th January.

His father John died aged 76 in 1912 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 13th March.
