Emma Jane Holley was baptised in 1826 in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of John and Ann Holley (nee Pinfold) who were married on the 7th August 1815 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

Her father John was born c1787 in Kingsclere Hampshire

Her mother Ann was born c1787 in Newbury Berkshire.

Emma gave birth to a son, Frederick Stillman Holley in 1843, he was baptised on the 26th November at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

She married Thomas Tooes in 1847

(Thomas was baptised in1826 in Bathwick, Somerset, the son of William and Mary Tooes).

Their 1st child, Henry William was baptised on the 29th August 1847 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

Emma gave birth to another son Thomas in 1848, (Thomas Toos died aged 1 in 1850, death recorded in the June quarter)

Emma gave birth to a daughter Amelia Tooes in the June quarter of 1850, Amelia Tooes was baptised on the 25th August 1850 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, she died aged 15 weeks and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd October 1850. Emma died aged 24 a few weeks later, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd November 1850.

The 1851 census records Emma’s widower Thomas Toes (25) as Coachmaker. He was recorded living in Back Lane, Newbury with Emma’s parents, John Holley (66), an Ostler and Ann (66). Also recorded in the household was Thomas and Emma’s son Henry Toes (3) (recorded as deaf and dumb) and a Frederick Stillman (7) (surname record as Ives on ancestry).

Emma’s father John died aged 63 in 1852, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th May.

Her mother Ann Holly died aged 73 in 1860, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Rod Cemetery on the 15th August.

Thomas remarried in 1853.

Thomas and Ann lived in Newbury until at least 1891. By 1896 they were living in Hampshire. Thomas died aged 70 on the 4th June 1896 in Hampshire (address at time of death, St Vincent-street Southsea). Ann died aged 78 in 1907 (death registered in Portsmouth)
