Julia Janetta was born in Newbury, the daughter of Philip Henry and Julia Mortimer (nee Baggs) who were married in 1860 (marriage registered in Newbury).

Her mother Julia was born in Newbury Berkshire, the daughter of William and Martha Baggs (nee Robey) who were married on the 19th February 1835 at St Mary Greenham Berkshire. Julia died aged 76 on the 8th July 1913, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th July.

 

Her father Philip Henry was a Master Baker, (in 1901 he was recorded as a Master Baker/Confectioner/Shopkeeper.) He was born in 1840 in Leckhampstead Berkshire, the son of Philip and Harriett Mortimer (nee Adams) who married in Speen in 1833. Philip Henry died on the 22nd July 1913, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th July (freebmd records Philip’s age at death as 72, MI records him aged 73).

 

 

Julia Janetta’s siblings were:

Philip Henry 1862 (married Gertrude May Philpots in 1893, died aged 69 in 1932 in Lambeth)

Leonard George 1863 (married Amy Louise Newman in 1898 in Romsey, died aged 57 in 1921 in Wandsworth)

Lavinia 1865 (married Frederick Viney in 1891, died aged 80 in 1946 in Abingdon)

Frederic Charles 1866 (died aged 0 1867 buried in the NRC on the 30th January)

Male c1868 (died without being named, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14th February 1868)

Samuel c1869

Edith 1872 (died aged 87 in 1960 in Abingdon)

Eleanor Gertrude 1876 (married Tom Blea in 1906, died aged 66 in 1942)

Thomas Raymond 1885 (died age 0 in 1885 buried in the NRC on the 16th October)

 

Julia Janetta was recorded as a bookkeeper in the 1891 census.

 

The family were recorded living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury from 1861-1891. In 1901 they were recorded living in Crown Court, Bartholomew Street. By 1911 they had moved to Winton House, Newtown Road, Newbury.

 

The Berkshire Electoral Registers record Julia Janetta living in Craven Road Newbury (number 30 in 1924, number 92 from 1925-1936 and number 90 from 1937-1939).

 

Julia died aged 67 on the 11th March 1939 at Highfield Avenue, Nursing Home. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th March.
