Elizabeth, her parents, siblings and early life:

 

Elizabeth was born in Newbury, the daughter of John and Livinia Wright (nee Challis) who were married in 1848 (marriage registered in Newbury)

 

Her mother Livinia was baptised in Newbury in 1827, the daughter of Frederick and Martha Challis (nee Walter) who were married on the 11th November 1821 in Speen, Berkshire.

 

Her father John was baptised 15th December 1822 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the son of Richard and Elizabeth Wright (nee Triggs) who were married on the 25th May 1817 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

 

John and Livinia also had the following children:

 

Twins: Jane and Richard John 1849 (Richard died aged 9 weeks, buried 6th June 1849 at St Nicolas Newbury)

Richard c1851

Female c1855 (died without being named soon after birth)

Annie Maria 1856 (died aged 3, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery Newbury on the 24th April 1860)

Annie Livinia 1862

Frederick John 1864

Joseph Cornelius 1867

 

The 1851 census records Livinia (24) (name recorded as Leonia on ancestry) and her two children, Jane (2) and Richard (1 month) living in Northcroft Lane, Newbury with her mother-in-law Elizabeth Wright (60), a Pauper/wife of a Coal Merchant’s Labourer.

 

In 1861 Elizabeth (2) was recorded living in West Mills Newbury with her mother Livinia (31), a Shoe Binder, her father John (37), a Bargeman and her brother Richard (10.)

 

Her father died aged 46 in 1869, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd October.

 

In 1871 Elizabeth (10) and her siblings Annie Livinia (8), John (7) (Frederick John) and Joseph (4) were recorded as inmates in the Newbury Workhouse.

 

(Elizabeth’s mother remarried in1874 (marriage registered in Newbury), her 2nd husband was Henry Waite. She lived in Mayor’s Lane Newbury until her death in 1896, she was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th February).

 

Elizabeth in later life:

 

On the 14th February 1878 Elizabeth gave birth to a daughter Alice Mary, she was baptised on the 8th March at St Nicolas Church Newbury (no father recorded on the baptism record).

 

Elizabeth married George Bellinger in 1879 (marriage registered in Newbury) and they had the following children:

Twins: Daisy and Rose 1889 (Daisy died aged 4 months in 1889, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th June)

William Cornelius 1892 (died aged 25 on the 31st May 1916 at the Battle of Jutland aboard HMS Queen Mary)

Ellen Elizabeth 1896

Francis Victor 1897

Evelyn Maud c1900 (died age 1 in 1901, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th May)

 

In 1891 the family were living in Mayor’s Lane, Newbury. By 1901 the family had moved to 16 Adey’s Buildings, Stroud Green, Newbury.

 

Elizabeth died aged 50 on the 8th June 1909, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th June.

 

The 1911 census records George (52) living at 16 Adey’s Bulidings with his children George (31) Albert (17), Nellie (Ellen Elizabeth) (14) and Frank (Francis Victor) (13).

 

George remarried in 1912, his 2nd wife was his sister-in-law, Annie Livinia Preston (marriage registered in Uxbridge Middlesex).

(Annie was the sister of George’s late wife Elizabeth. She married Thomas Preston in 1883. Thomas Preston died aged 43 in 1909, at the time of his death they were living at 1 Arthur Road Newbury).

 

 George moved in with Annie Livinia and they continued to live at 1 Arthur Road until their deaths.

 

George died aged 72 on the 9th August 1932, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th August.

 

Annie Lavinia died aged 72 on the 12th February 1934, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th February.
