1840-1911

George, his parents and siblings:

George was born in Berkshire, he was baptised on the 16th April 1840 in Chieveley, Berkshire the son of Richard Elliott and Mary Ann Smith (nee Webb) who were married in Speen in 1830.

Richard was baptised on the 26th March 1809 in Gosport, Hampshire the son of Richard and Mary Smith.

Mary Ann was baptised on the 16th April 1809 in Thatcham Berkshire, the daughter of Stephen and Louisa Webb (nee Smith) who were married on the 27th June 1808 in Thatcham (both were single).

Richard and Mary Ann also had the following children baptised in Chieveley:

Absalom/Anselm 23rd January 1831

Amelia Matilda 20th January 1833

Lucy Palmer 24th December 1837

Edward 8th December 1847 (died 1847 buried 13th December at St Mary the Virgin Chieveley

Emily Jane 9th April 1849 (died aged 10 months buried 11th December 1849 at St Mary the Virgin Chieveley)

They also had three other sons, Thomas born c1836, John born in 1843 and Joseph Brigham born 1853 (no baptisms found for these children)

George:

George worked as an Agricultural Labourer and was a bachelor.

 He was recorded living with his parents in Horsemoor,  Chieveley in 1841, 1851 and 1871. The 1861 census records him lodging in Northcroft Lane, Newbury. In 1881 he was recorded (as head of the household) living in Horsemoor, Chieveley with his sister Lucy (44) and his niece Florence (8). The 1891 census records him as a boarder at Oare Kiln Farm House, Oare, Chieveley. Both the 1901 and 1911 census records record him as an inmate in the Newbury Workhouse.

George died aged 72 in the Workhouse Infirmary in 1911 he was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th December
