1854-1920

 

Paul was born in 1854 (birth registered in Burton upon Trent Staffordshire) the son of William and Frances Shave (nee Wright) who were married on the 3rd June 1852 at the Parish Church of St Peter, Derby. He was baptised on the 8th January 1865 at Gresley Church, Swadlicote, Derbyshire along with his brother Frederick George (born 1852) and his sister Minnie (born 1856).

 In 1861 Paul (6) was living in Victoria Crescent, Horninglow, Staffordshire with his father William (40), a Gas Works Clerk, his mother Frances (27), his brother Frederick (8), his sister Minnie (4) and his uncle George Shave (44), a Draper’s Assistant.

 In 1871 the family were recorded living at 12 Bond Street, Burton Upon Trent, Staffordshire. His father was still working as a Gas Works Clerk. Frederick was working as a Brewery Clerk and Paul was working as a Painter.

Paul was recorded as a House Painter/Decorator in all later records.

 Paul’s father took his own life (cut his throat) whilst of unsound mind between the 4th and the 7th November 1875 in Tatenhill, Burton Upon Trent. His mother remarried in 1877, she was widowed again in 1894 and died aged 78 in 1906 in Burton Upon Trent.

 Paul married in 1882.

 Paul and Rosina had the following eight children:

The 1891, 1901 and 1911 census records record Paul and his family living in Northcroft Lane, Newbury.

 

Paul died on the 25th November 1920 in Newbury District Hospital, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30th November. (With his daughter Rhoda who died in 1907). Paul’s age at death was recorded as 64, actual age 66.

 His widow Rosina died aged 74 on the 21st August 1935, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th August. (With her husband Paul and her daughter Rhoda).

 

 Probate: SHAVE Paul of Northcroft-lane Newbury Berkshire house painter died 25th November 1920 at the District Hospital Newbury Administration Oxford 31st January 1921 to Rosend Eliza Shave widow. Effects: £253 19s 3d
