William was baptised at St Mary Kingsclere Hampshire on the 15th April 1780, the son of John and Sarah Rolfe (nee Bennett). John was recorded as a Labourer on the baptism record and the family were recorded living in Dell, Kingsclere.

William’s parents were married on the 29th December 1799 at St Mary Kingsclere, both were of the parish and witnesses were Samuel Rolfe and Richard Rode.

John and Sarah also had the following children baptised at St Mary Kingsclere:

Elizabeth 9th November 1782

Thomas 27th February 1785

John 23rd April 1789

Elizabeth 5th February 1792

Robert 8th June 1794

James and Mary 14th April 1797

Sarah 10th July 1803

William married Isabella unknown (marriage not found yet!) and they had two sons. William baptised 6th March 1831 (father recorded as a Labourer) and Andrew baptised 27th October 1833 (father recorded as a Sawyer), both were baptised at St Mary Kingsclere.

 Isabella died aged 38 in 1837 she was buried on the 20th February at St Mary Kingsclere.

The 1841 census records William (65) and his two sons William (10) and Andrew (7) living in Dell, Kingsclere, Hampshire.

In the 1851 census William (72) was recorded as a Labourer and Chelsea Pensioner living in Headley, Hampshire. In this census he was recorded as being deaf. Both his sons were still living with him and both were recorded as Agricultural Labourers.

In 1861 William (84) was recorded as a Pensioner living with his married son Andrew (27), daughter-in-law Ann (17) and granddaughter Alice (1), in Tan Yard Cottages, Ecchinswell, Hampshire.

He died aged 84 in 1861 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th May.
