Elijah was born in Newbury, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Crosswell (nee Wilton) who were married in 1845 (marriage registered in Newbury).

His father Thomas was baptised on the 2nd October 1825, the son of William and Maria Crosswell (nee Winter)  who were married on the 24th December 1824 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

His mother Elizabeth was baptised on the 26th July 1826 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the daughter of John and Rebecca Wilton (nee Sims) who were married in Ringwood Hampshire in 1823.

Thomas and Elizabeth also had the following children:

William Thomas c1849

John Jonathan 1852

Charles 1858.

 

Elijah died aged 3 in 1859, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th February.  (Name mistakenly recorded as Eliza on the NRC burial accounts)

Elijah’s father Thomas was a Bricklayer’s Labourer/Labourer. The family were recorded living in Chubb’s Yard, Newbury in 1851, Back Lane, Newbury in 1861, West Street, Maidenhead in 1871 and Park Street, Bray, Maidenhead in 1881.

Thomas died aged 65 in 1891 (death registered in Cookham)

Elijah’s mother Elizabeth was recorded in the 1891 census as a Sick Nurse, she was still living in Park Street, Maidenhead.

The 1901 census again records her as a Sick Nurse, she was recorded as an Inmate in the Jesus Hospital in Bray Berkshire.

She died aged 84 in 1911 (death registered in Maidenhead)
