1860-1861

George was born in Newbury in 1860, the son of William George and Emily Adey (nee Seymour) who were married on the 21st September 1858 at St Peter and St Paul, Marlborough, Wiltshire.

 George’s father William George was a Builder, he born in 1829 in Newbury the son of George and Martha Adey (nee Low). William George was the Mayor of Newbury in 1874 and 1875.

George’s mother Emily was baptised on the 13th March 1836 in Marlborough the daughter of Henry and Sarah Seymour (nee Brunsdon). (Her mother married George Batten on the 18th October 1819 at St Marylebone, Middlesex. She then went on to marry Emily’s father on the 19th April 1830 at St Andrew, Holborn, Middlesex).

George died on the 3rd February 1861, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th February in a consecrated family vault.

George’s siblings were:

The family were recorded living in West Mills, Newbury in 1861 and 1871.

George’s mother Emily died aged 42 in 1878, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th June

George’s father remarried in 1881, his 2nd wife was Anna Carnell (nee Day), a widow, they were married on the 7th July at St John, Glastonbury, Somerset

Both the 1881 and 1891 census records record the family living in West Mills.

William George died aged 67 on the 26th March 1897 in Highclere (death recorded in Kingsclere), he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31st March

Anna died aged 75 on the 23rd October 1915, at the time of her death she was living at “Avalon” Greenham, Newbury, Berkshire.
