Richard, his parents, siblings and early life:

Richard was born in Newbury he was baptised on the 25th February 1787 at St Nicolas Church Newbury the son of John and Sarah Wright (nee Brunsdon) who were married on the 13th November 1780 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

John and Sarah also had the following 14 children:

John Brunsdon baptised 8th July 1781 (buried (as John) 9th October 1815 at St Nicolas)

William baptised 2nd March 1783 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (buried 1st March 1788 at St Nicolas)

James born c1784

William and Sarah both baptised 22nd June 1788 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (Sarah buried 11/8/1788, William buried 31/8/1789 at St Nicolas)

Charles baptised 1st November 1789 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (buried 15th May 1832 at St Nicolas)

Hannah baptised 21st August 1791 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (married Sidney Cumner in 1814, buried 12th September 1836 at St Nicolas)

Thomas baptised 14th July 1793 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (buried 16th March 1829 at St Nicolas)

Betsy baptised 20th September 1795 at St Nicolas Church Newbury

Joseph born 6th March 1797 baptised 2nd April 1797 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (married Maria Walker in 1829, buried 30th December 1857 in the NRC)

Elizabeth born 28th July1798 baptised 15th August 1798 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (married James Hatt in 1833, buried 3rd December 1879 in the NRC)

Samuel baptised 5th January 1800 (buried 23rd September 1807 at St Nicolas)

Sarah born 28th August 1802 baptised 26th September 1802 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (married widower George Field in 1850, died aged 48 in 1851 buried in the NRC on the 27th June)

Mary born c1805 baptised 23rd August 1805 (buried 10th March 1806 at St Nicolas Church Newbury)

 

The 1815 census of Newbury records Richard (27), living in Northcroft Lane (on the west side of Northbrook Street) Newbury with his parents John (60), a Malter and Sarah (54) and his siblings John (33), James (31) and Sarah (13).

Richard’s father died aged 71 in 1825 he was buried on the 7th September at St Nicolas Newbury. His mother Sarah died aged 100 on the 29th March 1852 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd April.

Richard:

Richard married Elizabeth Triggs on the 25th May 1817 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (Elizabeth was baptised on the 13th May 1791 at St Nicolas Newbury the daughter of Richard and Jane Triggs (nee Kember) who were married on the 28th May 1787 at St Nicolas Newbury).

In 1815 Elizabeth Triggs (20) was also living in Northcroft Lane Newbury with her brothers John Triggs (10) and Richard Triggs 16, a Basket Maker.

Richard and Elizabeth had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury:

Ann baptised 12th April 1818

Jane baptised 3rd September 1820

John baptised 15th December 1822

Richard baptised 17th July 1825

Charles baptised 25th November 1827

Sarah baptised 14th February 1830

Elizabeth baptised 12th May 1833 (died aged 5 months, buried 24th September at St Nicolas Newbury)

Eliza baptised 21st September 1834 (died aged 1,buried 21st August 1835 at St Nicolas Newbury)

(Richard was recorded as a Tanner on Ann’s baptism record in 1818 and a Labourer on all of the other baptism records)

The 1841 census records Richard (50), as a Labourer, living in Northcroft Lane Newbury with Elizabeth (50) and their children Charles (13) and Sarah (10).

Richard died aged 63 in 1850 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd August.

The 1851 census records Elizabeth (60) as a Pauper/wife of a Coal Merchant’s Labourer living in Northcroft Lane, also living with her were Livinia (recorded as Leonia) Wright (24), Jane Wright (2) and Richard Wright (1 month) (Livinia married Richard and Elizabeth’s son John Wright born c1823, in 1848)

Elizabeth died aged 77 in 1867 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th February.
