Richard was baptised on the 17th July 1825 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the son of Richard and Elizabeth Wright (nee Triggs) who were married on the 25th May 1817 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

 

His father Richard was born in Newbury, he was baptised on the 25th February 1787 at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the son of John and Sarah Wright (nee Brunsdon) who were married on the 13th November 1780 at St Nicolas Church Newbury..

 

His mother Elizabeth was baptised on the 13th May 1791 at St Nicolas Newbury, the daughter of Richard and Jane Triggs (nee Kember) who were married on the 28th May 1787 at St Nicolas Newbury.

 

Richard and Elizabeth also had the following children:

Ann baptised 12th April 1818

Jane baptised 3rd September 1820

John baptised 15th December 1822

Charles baptised 25th November 1827

Sarah baptised 14th February 1830

Elizabeth baptised 12th May 1833 (died aged 5 months, buried 24th September at St Nicolas Newbury)

Eliza baptised 21st September 1834 (died aged 1,buried 21st August 1835 at St Nicolas Newbury)

(Richard was recorded as a Tanner on Ann’s baptism record in 1818 and a Labourer on all of the other baptism records)

 

In 1841 Richard (15) was recorded as a Male Servant, he was living in Church Court, Newbury with his uncle, Joseph Wright (35) a Hairdresser, his aunt, Maria Wright (35) and his cousin, Maria Cumner (10), a female Servant.

 

In 1851 Richard (24) was working as a Labourer, he was living in Broad Street Reading Berkshire.

 

The 1861 census records him aged 35, working as a Butcher’s Assistant in the High Street Odiham Hampshire.

 

By 1871 Richard was working as a Journeyman Butcher. The census for that year records him as an Inmate in the Workhouse Newbury.

 

He died aged 57 on the 11th January 1881 in the Workhouse and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th January.
