Alexander George Heath - 11 February 1843 - 30 April 1905
Alexander George Heath was born on 11th February 1843 in Pound Street, Newbury. His birth was registered by his father on 18th March 1843. He was recorded as the son of "Ralph Heath, Baker and Harriet Heath, formerly George" of "Pound Street, Newbury". Alexander George Heath was baptised on 30th April 1843 in Newbury, the son of Ralph Heath (Baker) and Harriet. In the 1851 census Alexander Heath (8) a "Scholar" was living with his parents at Pound Street, Newbury.
In the 1861 census Alexander Geo Heath (17) an "Apprentice Boot Closer" was still living with his parents at Pound Street (off Bartholomew Terrace), Newbury.


Between 1861 and 1870 Alexander George Heath married Harriet Stephenson — but I can't find any record of this marriage.

Alexander George and Harriet had a number of children:
Albert George Heath was born on 27th April 1870 at Dredges Yard, Newbury. He was recorded as the son of Alexander George Heath, Shoemaker and Harriet Heath née Stephenson. His birth was registered by "X the Mark of Harriet Heath, Mother, Dredges Yard, Newbury". Albert George Heath died (aged 4) and was buried at St Mary, Greenham on 13th January 1875.

Henry Heath was born on 26th June 1871 in Greenham. Newbury, Berkshire. He was recorded as the son of Alexander George Heath, Shoemaker and Harriet Heath née Stephenson. His birth was registered by "Harriet Heath, Mother, Greenham".

Alfred Edward Heath was born on 5th February 1873 at Moorlands Yard, Newbury. He was recorded as the son of Alexander George Heath, Shoemaker and Harriet Heath née Stephenson. His birth was registered by "Alexander George Heath, Father, Moorlands Yard, Greenham".

Alice Heath was born on 29' July 1874 in Railway Yard, Greenham, Newbury, Berkshire. She was recorded as the daughter of Alexander George Heath, Shoemaker and Harriet Heath nee Stephenson. Her birth was registered by "Harriet Heath, Mother, Railway Yard, Greenham".

Kate Heath born on 18' February 1876 in Newbury, Berkshire.

Rose Heath born on 17' June 1877 in Newbury, Berkshire. In the 1871 census Alex G Heath (27) a "Shoemaker" was living with his wife Harriet (21) and  their young son Albert G Heath (1) at Moorlands Cottages, Greenham, Newbury. His wife Harriet is recorded as having been born in Yorkshire.


In the 1881 census Alex G Heath (38) a "Shoemaker" was living at Greenham Street, Greenham with his wife Harriet (30) and five of their children: Henry (9), Alfred (7), Alice (6), Kate (5) and Rose (3). The children are all described as "scholars". In the 1891 census Alexander George Heath (48) a "Shoemaker" was living at St Mary's Hill, Greenham with his wife Harriet (40) and four of their children: Henry (19) a "Grocer's Porter", Alfred (18) an "Errand Boy", Alice (16) a "Laundress", and Rose (13) a "Scholar".


In the 1901 census Alexander G Heath (58) a Shoemaker and repairer, working on his own account at home" was living at 10 Newmarket Street, Newbury with his wife Harriet (53) and one child Rose (23) a "Dressmaker".


Alexander George Heath died (aged 62) on 30' April 1905 at 10 Newmarket Street, Newbury. He was described as a "Shoemaker (Master). His cause of death was "Pulmonary Phthisis 3 months and Exhaustion". His death was registered by his son Henry Heath (in attendance) who lived at 148 Bartholomew Street, Newbury.


Alexander George Heath was buried on 3' May 1905 in Newtown Road Cemetery, Newbury. The Burial record records him as aged 62 years and living at 10 Market Street, Newbury.

In the 1911 census Harriet Heath (56) a "widow" and living on "Private means" was living with her daughter Rose Mosdell (35) at 24 Leslie Grove, Croydon, Surrey with Roses's husband Ernest Mosdell (36) a "Railway Goods Shunter" and three of their children: John (8), Lydia (3) and Rose (2).

Harriet Heath née Stephenson died (aged 63) on 3" November 1913 at Croydon Union Hospital, Croydon. She was described as aged 63 and "of 39 Albert Road, Croydon. Widow of Alexander George Heath a Shoemaker (Master)". Her cause of death was recorded as "Gangrenous ulcer of leg, Septicaemia Certified D J Richardson". Her death was registered on 4th November by "R Mosdell Daughter In attendance 39 Albert Road, Croydon".
