Note      The “Miss Goodyear” among the mourners is Gertrude Goodyear, the Great Grandmother. of David Ely.  Mrs Turk (Maria, widow, nee Sheerman) is her mother, and John Burton Turk is her stepfather.  Gertrude’s father was Alfred John Goodyear who ran the Carnarvon Arms in Whitway and died earlier in 1875.

See also the note of Thomas Patrick Goodyear Bennett, who was Gertrude’s son.  In it he describes the blacksmiths run by the Turk family in the centre of Newbury.  He writes “I have no record of what the Goodyears…were”.  I don’t think he knew Maria had remarried – it seems likely he thought he weas descended from John Turk and wasn’t told that Maria had remarried.
