Elizabeth Warner

c1787-1855

 

Elizabeth was born in Newbury Berkshire she was baptised on the 3rd June 1787 at St Nicolas Church Newbury the daughter of William and Hannah Batchelor (nee Hedges) who were married on the 27th January 1781 at St Nicolas Newbury.

In 1815 Elizabeth (32) was living in Greenham Lane Newbury with her widowed father William (56), a Boat Builder, her widowed brother William (32), her nephew William (7) (son of her brother William and deceased sister-in-law Charlotte (nee Field) who died aged 25 in 1813)  and Thomas Warner (24), a Labourer.

Elizabeth married Thomas Warner on the 15th April 1818 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. (Thomas was baptised on the 26th June 1791 at the parish church of St Andrew Ogbourne Marlborough Wiltshire the son of John and Phebe Warner (nee Painter) who were married on the 27th April 1789 at St Mary Marlborough Wiltshire)

Elizabeth gave birth to a son, Henry born on the 27th November 1818 in Newbury he was baptised on the 25th December 1818 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

Thomas died aged 33 in 1824 he was buried on the 30th June at St Nicolas Newbury

In 1841 Elizabeth (50) was working as a Tailoress, living in Northcroft Lane Newbury with her son Henry (20), a Cordwainer, a James Batchelor (55), a Boat Builder (possibly Elizabeth’s brother) and a Sarah Friden (60).

The 1851 census records Elizabeth (64) (surname recorded as Harner on ancestry) as a Laundress, living in Northcroft Lane Newbury. Also recorded in the household were two lodgers, Samuel Powers (27) a Coal Heaver Labourer and James Batchelor (66).

 

Elizabeth died aged 67 in 1855 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th September
