Charlotte Lucy Turner

1871-1888

Charlotte was born in Newbury the daughter of Thomas and Mary Turner (nee Adams) who were married on the 23rd May 1863 at St John’s Church Newbury. She was the youngest of three girls. Her sisters were Ellen born c1864 and Alice Mary born in 1865.

Charlotte’s parents:

Mary Adams was born in 1843 in Newbury the daughter of Robert and Martha Adams (nee Ball) who were married on the 28th June 1829 at St Mary’s Thatcham (both were single and from Greenham)

Charlotte’s father:

Thomas Turner was born 1841 in Newbury the son of John and Sarah Turner (nee Rawlings) who were married in Newbury in 1838

 

In 1871 the family were living in the City Newbury. Her father Thomas was working as a Candle Maker’s Porter.

Her mother Mary died aged 30 in 1873 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31st January.

Her father remarried the following year his 2nd wife was Louisa Naylor.

In 1881 Charlotte (9) was recorded living in the City Newbury with her father Thomas (39), a Chandler’s Porter, her step-mother Louisa (47) and her sister, Ellen (17), an unemployed Domestic Servant

Charlotte Lucy died aged 16 years 9 months on the 7th February 1888 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 13th February

Her step-mother Louisa died aged 81 on the 28th February 1915 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd March

Her father Thomas died aged 75 on the 4th December 1916 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th December.

Charlotte’s sister Ellen married Frederick Pocock in 1884 in Newbury. They had 3 children, Mary Jane born in 1884, George Thomas born in 1886 and Frederick born in 1890. Ellen died aged 26 on the 15th July 1890 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18th July.

Her sister Alice Mary married William Louis C Panchaud in 1892. They had two children William Douglas born in 1894 and Ellen Marie born in 1899. Alice died aged 70 on the 27th September 1935 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st October.
