Emma Breeze

c1811-1876

 

Emma was born in Berkshire she was baptised on the 18th August 1811 in Long Wittenham Berkshire the daughter of Thomas and Martha Twine. Thomas was born c1781 and Martha was born c1783 in Clifton Oxfordshire

Thomas and Martha also had the following children:

In 1839 Emma gave birth to a son, Charles Twine who was baptised in Long Wittenham on the 27th October 1839. Charles died aged 15 weeks he was buried on the 12th December 1839 at St Mary the Virgin Long Wittenham.

The 1841 census records Thomas (55) as a Tailor, living in Long Wittenham with Martha (55) and their daughter Hannah (15). Emma (25) was recorded as a Female Servant living in the village of Shippon (1 mile west of Abingdon) Oxfordshire.

Emma’s father died aged 62 in 1843 he was buried on the 5th March at St Mary the Virgin Long Wittenham

In 1850 Emma gave birth to a daughter, Martha Twine (possible father David Rivers as she is recorded as Martha Rivers in the 1871 census).

The 1851 census records Emma’s mother Martha (67) living in Long Wittenham, her widowed son-in-law John Weedon (25) was also recorded in the household. Emma (40) and her daughter Martha (4 months) were recorded living in Hyde End Green, Brimpton, Berkshire. Emma was recorded as a House Servant working for widower David Rivers (34), a Farmer. David had three young children. (David Rivers was Emma’s brother-in-law he married Emma’s sister Martha (born c1819). Martha died aged 30 in 1849 she was buried on the 10th September at St Peter Brimpton)

Emma married David Rivers in 1854, David died aged 39 in 1856 he was buried on the 14th January at St Peter Brimpton).

Emma’s mother died aged 70 in 1853 she was buried on the 6th May at St Mary the Virgin Long Wittenham

By 1861 Emma was living with James Breeze as his wife. (No marriage found for James and Emma).

The 1861 census records James Breeze (60), as an Earthenware Dealer, living in Bartholomew Street Newbury with his wife Emma Breeze (49) and their daughter Martha Breeze (10).  (Martha Twine)

The 1871 census records James Breeze (70), as a China Dealer, living in Bartholomew Street with Emma (59), their unmarried daughter Martha Rivers (20)(Martha Twine) and their granddaughter Annie Moss Rivers (2).

James died aged 71 in 1871 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd December. (He was mistakenly recorded as William Breeze in the NRC records)

Emma died aged 65 in 1876 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th November.
