Mary Jane Smith

1861-1861

 

Mary Jane was born in Newbury the daughter of George and Mary Ann Smith (nee Parker) who married in Newbury in 1857.

George was a Sawyer he was born c1835 in Ecchinswell Hampshire the son of John and Mary Smith (nee Aldridge) who were married on the 10th March 1832 in Kingsclere.

Mary Ann was born c1830 in Newbury Berkshire the daughter of William and Sarah Parker (nee Crofts). Mary had a daughter Fanny born in 1848 before she married George.

 

Mary Jane died aged 3 months in 1861 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th September. (NBI 3rd Edition has burial date recorded as 21st September 1861)

George and Mary Ann also had the following children:

John Henry 1862 (died 1863 buried in the NRC on the 9th February)

Arthur 1863 (died 1864 buried in the NRC on the 20th April)

Sarah Ann 1865

Ellen 1868

The family were recorded living in Mayor’s Lane (1861 and 1871), The Folly Greenham (1881 and 1891) and 14 New Church Almshouses Newbury (1901)

In 1901 George was recorded as an Army Pensioner. He died aged 68 in 1904 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th January.

Mary Ann died aged 84 in 1911 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14th February the burial record records her abode as 1 Yew Villas Queens Road Newbury, this was the home of her daughter and son-in-law Sarah Ann and Harry Alder
