Joseph Appleton

1849-1850

Joseph was born in Newbury he was the son of Thomas and Eliza Appleton (nee Hazell) who were married on the 2nd April 1837 at St Mary Thatcham (both were single and from Greenham).

Thomas was born in 1815 in Newbury the son of William and Elizabeth Appleton (nee Lambden) who were married on 19th September 1814 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (both were single).

Thomas and Eliza also had the following children:

Harriet 1839

William 1842 (died aged 1 in 1844)

Thomas 1844

Charles 1846 (died aged 0 in 1846)

John 1847

Nathaniel c1852

 

Joseph died before his 1st birthday (birth registered December quarter 1849) he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th August 1850.

Thomas was recorded as a Sawyer in 1841, 1851 and 1861, and a Labourer in 1871

The family were recorded living in the City in 1841, 1861 and 1871 and Nutley’s Yard, Bartholomew Street in 1851

Eliza died aged 60 in 1870 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th February.

In 1881 Thomas (68) was recorded living in Chapel Street Basingstoke Hampshire with his married daughter Elizabeth Greenaway and her family.

Thomas died in 1890 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th February.
