Ann Smith

c1788-1862

 

Ann was born in Whitchurch Hampshire she baptised on the 21st August 1788 in Whitchurch and was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Farr.

Thomas and Mary also had a son, Benjamin, baptised in Whitchurch on the 3rd August 1784.

Ann was married twice. Her 1st husband was William Batt they married on the 6th October 1812 in Hambledon Hampshire. They had a daughter, Ellen, baptised on the 8th October 1815 in Longparish Hampshire.

Her 2nd husband was George Smith (born c1801 in Newbury) they married on the 25th December 1826 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

George and Ann had the following children:

 George born 2/1/1828 baptised 27/1/1828 Wesleyan Methodist Church Northbrook St Newbury

Edwin born 17/4/1830 baptised 9/5/1830 Wesleyan Methodist Church Northbrook St Newbury

Mary Anne born 17/3/1832 baptised 15/4/1832 Wesleyan Methodist Church Northbrook St Newbury

On George’s baptism record in 1828, his father George was recorded as a Shopkeeper of West Mills Newbury. On Edwin’s baptism record in 1830 and on all census records George was recorded as a Boat Builder.

 The 1841 census record George (40), Ann (50), George (13), Edwin (11) and Mary (9) living at Rg Market Newbury

In 1851 George and Ann were living in Hobb’s Yard Northbrook St Newbury. The 1861 census records them living in Webb’s Yard Northbrook Street Newbury.

Ann died aged 72 in 1862 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th September.

In the 1871 census George was recorded living in King John’s Almshouses Newbury he died aged 72 in 1872 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the1st October,
