Edward Golding

Edward was born c1799 in Henley Oxfordshire he was baptised on the 25th March 1799 at St Mary’s Henley on Thames and was the son of Thomas & Mary Joyce Golding (nee Cooke) who were married on the 25th December 1783 in Henley on Thames. 

Other children of Thomas & Mary were:  (all baptised at St Mary’s Henley on Thames)

By 1815 the family were living in Newbury. The 1815 census of Newbury records Thomas Golding (60), Shoemaker, Mary (55), Thomas (25) and Edward (16), living in East Field Newbury.  

Like his father, Edward was also a Shoemaker he married Maria Paice at St Nicolas Church Newbury on the 2nd January 1825. Maria was born c1791 in either Farnham Surrey (as recorded in the 1851 census) or Newbury Berkshire (as recorded in the 1861 census). Edward and Maria had at least three children, Caroline baptised 3rd April 1825 (died aged 1 in 1826 buried on the 14th August at St Nicolas Newbury) Mary Ann born c1829 and George born c1830, all born in Newbury.

The family were recorded living in Old Newtown Road Newbury in both the 1841 and 1851 census. The 1861 census records Edward and Maria living in the City Newbury.

Edward died aged 63 in 1862 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st March.

Maria Golding died aged 73 in 1864 she was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 19th July. (NRC Burial Accounts have her recorded as Mary FBMD and the GRO website have her death recorded as Maria)
