Charles senior and his son Charles were both recorded as bricklayers and Alfred as a carrier. Ten years later in the 1851 census Charles & Ann were living by themselves still in Northbrook Street. Charles was recorded as a pauper bricklayer and Ann as a schoolmistress.

Charles died 25 April 1856 aged 84 and was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 2 May 1856.

In the 1861 census Ann was recorded as a lodger living with Thomas and Harriett Bennett in Rose & Thistle Gardens in Newbury. She was recorded as a bricklayer’s widow.
