Maria Leat Edwards

1859-1861

Maria was born in Newbury she was the daughter of William and Mary Ann Edwards (nee Smith) who married in Alverstoke in 1855. William was a Grocer’s Assistant/Grocer and was born c1828 in Lyme Regis Dorset and Mary Ann was born c1831 in Newbury.

William and Mary Ann also had the following children:

Ellen Batt 1857 (died aged 2 buried in the NRC 10th February 1860)

Charlie Farr 1860

Percival Spencer 1862

Minnie Carson c1864 (died aged 2 buried in the NRC 30th May 1866)

Ada Mabel 1865

Belinda Ann c1867

Emily Grey c1868

William Herbert 1869 (died aged 0 buried in the NRC 7th September 1869)

Katie Pennicotte c1871

Harry Aubrey 1872

Mary Lissette 1874

The family were recorded living in Bartholomew Street Newbury from 1861-1901

Maria died aged 2 in 1861 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road cemetery on the 4th October

Maria’s mother died aged 48 on the 3rd March 1878 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th March.

Her father remarried later that year, his 2nd wife was Ada Alice Milsom (born 1849 in Woodhay Hampshire)

Maria’s father died aged 80 on the 20th April 1907 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th April.
